Ah, March—a month of anticipation and excitement, especially when a 7-day cruise with my mom was on the horizon! However, with tight purse strings, I couldn't indulge in a shopping spree for all the cruise essentials. But hey, necessity is the mother of invention, right? So, I rolled up my sleeves and embarked on a crafting adventure, concocting five fabulous projects to deck myself out for the high seas.
1. Personalized Hip-Bag: Every cruiser needs a trusty hip bag for stashing essentials like sunscreen and lip balm or for me my travel tripod. Instead of splurging on a pricey one, I decided to give a plain bag a makeover. With some iron-on decal and patch, I transformed it into a personalized masterpiece—a true reflection of my style and spirit.
Although in hindsight maybe items from the dollar store are not the best or I need to work on my skills. Neither wanted to stay attached.
2. Diving into T-Shirt Weaving: Ever heard of weaving magic with old t-shirts? Neither had I, until I stumbled upon this ingenious DIY project. With a pair of scissors and a dose of creativity, I turned worn-out tees into this cute shirt, adding a touch of bohemian flair to my cruise wardrobe. I bought the shirt years ago at TJ Maxx because I loved the mermaid and anchors print on it.
3. Revamping an Old Cover-Up: We all have that one piece of clothing that's just a tad too big or too blah. For me, it was an old cover-up languishing in the back of my closet. But instead of tossing it aside, I gave it a second chance at glory. With some strategic stitching and a pinch of imagination, I tailored it to fit almost like a dream, ready to make waves by the poolside. It needs a little more finesse but it is one of my favorite articles of clothing that I am not ready to give up.
It took a lot of hours to remove all the worn-out elastic that was in the dress. It turned out to be a more complicated project than I originally anticipated. I just love the color and the pattern so much that I could not let it go just yet. What do you think?
4. Crafting a Double-Sided Belt: Belts are versatile accessories that can cinch waists and elevate outfits. But why settle for one look when you can have two? Inspired by the idea of versatility, I crafted a double-sided belt, featuring contrasting colors and textures. Now, I can effortlessly switch up my style from day to night, all with a simple flip.
5. Fringe Fever: Last but not least, my favorite project—adding fringe to a shirt! There's something undeniably playful and chic about fringe, don't you think? Armed with a pair of scissors and a steady hand, I gave a plain tee a whimsical makeover, transforming it into a statement piece that's perfect for dancing under the stars on the cruise deck.
I got this shirt from Amazon and it is a very high quality shirt. It took a very long time to remove the seams. The message is how I am trying to live and these projects kept me busy and added some joy to my life.
From personalized accessories to revamped cover-ups, these DIY projects not only saved me a pretty penny but also infused my cruise wardrobe with a touch of originality and charm. So, the next time you're prepping for an adventure on the high seas, don't hesitate to get crafty and unleash your inner designer. After all, the best treasures are those you create with your own two hands.
Bon voyage, fellow DIY enthusiasts!
